Kailee Love—yes, that’s her real name—started tattooing in 2009. While she now calls Bay Shore home, she was born in Nevada and even briefly lived in Germany as a child. Long before her start as a tattoo artist, she knew from a young age that she wanted to be in the art field. She has always enjoyed drawing and painting, and fondly recalls her time in her high school AP art and graphic design classes. She candidly confesses that after years of wondering what the art world had in store for her, she “kinda just stumbled in to tattooing.” While she had found her calling, the start of her tattooing career was not without struggle, which eventually led her to take a year and a half off to study illustration at FIT. However, her hiatus from tattooing wouldn’t last long. Kailee soon returned to tattooing with a renewed drive and passion to making a living doing it. Although her journey to becoming a tattoo artist was rough and uncertain at times, she credits it for giving her the chance to establish who she is as an artist, and it has given her the ability and confidence to do projects that are more stimulating and gratifying to her. She especially enjoys tattooing spooky women (both as clients and tattoo subject matter), bones, animals, plants—anything “organic” really. In her tattooing, she tends to gravitate toward black and grey as she feels they typically work best for executing the dark, macabre, mood that is often her calling card in much of her work. But, above all, she loves just being able to create art daily. When not tattooing, Kailee loves traveling, hiking, exploring, being in nature, climbing trees, and feeling in tune with the earth. When not traveling, she enjoys spending time with family and playing video games.
