Caribbean native, Kevin Soomai was born on the small island of Trinidad. At the age of six, Kevin and his family moved to Brooklyn NY.
From a young age, Kevin has always enjoyed art and drawing. Although artistic, Kevin never really considered applying his talents in the tattoo medium until he met seasoned tattoo artist Dammian Moore. Seeing something special in the young artist, Moore took on Kevin as an apprentice when Kevin was only 18 years old. The pair worked together for seven years until Kevin branched off on his own. Kevin would later fine tune his skills in the traditional tattooing style under the mentorship of international tattoo artist “Big Jazz”.
As an artist, Kevin continues to push himself to learn and master different tattoo styles, and he thrives when presented with new challenges. Now over ten years in to his tattooing career, Kevin’s abilities continue to mature, and have come to include a wide variety of styles, including portrait, realism, freestyle, traditional, lettering, and tribal. Kevin is especially known for his use of black and gray inks to portray realism and high levels of details in his tattoos.
